The composition for Tremayne was written by Gareth Churcher, in 9 movements. These traced the progress from new moon to full, through Waxing Crescent and Waxing Gibbous. From the apex or centre Full of the Moon, the composition was simply played in reverse, mirroring the phases of the waning moon. St Keverne band members were posted at in a triangle, high up on the river banks, among the ancient oaks. They were accompanied by a wandering voice hidden in Adam Chodzko’s wooden kayak Ghost. The singer Katie Kirk was paddled by Adam Chodzko.

I was commissioned to devise Tremayne by CAST for Groundwork. We dedicated it to Mark Wilkin, who played as a drummer with St Keverne Band and died in a motorbike accident in May 2018.

For this work, St Keverne Band were divided and placed at three points across the Helford River at Tremayne Quay, the audience listening from boats in mid channel.

The event was timed to coincide with the high tide at the autumn equinox, when the moon exerts the strongest tidal pull.
