Grand Mutator (Base 3 Bag Variants 1-14)

Starting with a basic pattern for a string bag, each successive round of the Grand Mutator adds a level of deviation from the starting patten. These mutations include adding and subtracting stitches, changing the yarn, duplication and removing rounds in the original pattern and changing the size of the hook. A dice is used to determine outcomes.

This progressive mutation relates to Darwinian evolution where forms are considered to change due to mistakes in coding over time. Yarns used include flourescent thread, metallised thread, embroidery silk, kid mohair, and cotton glace yarn. Each variant round is pinned to float 2cm from the wall and arranged in relation to the dimensions of the space as well as one another.
